Aubameyang Targets Another Golden Boot After Newcastle Winner

Aubameyang Targets Another Golden Boot After Newcastle Winner

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has set his sights on claiming another golden boot after his solitary strike earned the Gunners a slim 1-0 away win at Newcastle United in their Premier League opener on Sunday.

In a game of few chances where both sides could only muster two shots on target apiece, Aubameyang’s 58th minute winner proved to be decisive as Arsenal started the season with a win.

Aubameyang shared last season’s Premier League golden boot with fellow Africans and Liverpool duo, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, as they all registered 22 strikes in the competition.

After the game the 30-year-old Gabonese forward was asked whether the golden boot is a target this season, he replied: “Of course it is in the mind of a striker but first of all the team is the most important.

“I’m really pleased the goal helped us win the game.”

Aubameyang already has some catching up to do if he is to win the golden boot after Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling grabbed a hat-trick in his first game while Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford all bagged braces for their sides.

The result meant Arsenal have already matched the number of away clean sheets they kept in the whole of last season, and unlike last term whey they lost to Manchester City in their opening day of the season, Aubameyang was delighted to get the 2019/2020 season off to a winning start.

He said: "We fought today a lot. It was a great game against a good team.

"It was important to start with a win, last season we started bad, so we are happy.

"It is always positive for all the squad to win the first game, everyone is happy to get three points and we're looking forward to winning more games."
